PROJECT-SUPPORT SWITZERLAND

2021-2022-CHE-SDG 3 / Foundation IdéeSport

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being

Foundation IdéeSport, Olten, Schweiz

Country / Place

Switzerland, 175 locations nationwide

The projects are present in more than 200 municipalities in all linguistic regions of Switzerland. The close cooperation with the municipalities, as well as with financial and professional partners, enables the implementation of the programmes at 175 locations throughout Switzerland.

The idea behind IdéeSport

IdéeSport has been involved in supporting children and young people in Switzerland since 1999, and uses sports for health promotion and social integration. With various programmes for sports and encounters, it creates the conditions for regular meeting points across cultural and social boundaries.

Health is a major concern for IdéeSport. The foundation opens up local sports halls and offers young people the free space they need, especially on Saturday evenings, for exercise and encounters, just as it does for children on Sunday afternoons. The coaches, themselves teenagers and young adults, take care of the organisation and look after the participants.

Beneficiaries

With the programmes MidnightSports (ages 13 - 17), EverFresh (ages 13 - 17), OpenSunday (primary school children), MoveYourSummer (primary school children), MiniMove (ages 2 - 5) and the CoachProgramme (ages 13 - 25), IdéeSport makes a socially relevant contribution to an open, solidary, and humane Switzerland. The aims are to promote health and to create equal opportunities in the development of children and young people.

Season 2021/2022:
128’072 participations; 3’468 events, 175 projects, 21 cantons

Project-support - MidnightSports canton Uri

MidnightSports strengthens the resources of young people in a targeted way, to support them in their healthy development. Through movement and encounters, cognitive skills and social competences are promoted, self-esteem is improved, and stress is reduced. The sports halls also offer space for social activities, such as dancing, listening to music, and cosy get-togethers. For young people, it is a meeting place where they can enjoy their Saturday night.

Season 2021/2022:
1'058 participations and 40 events

Season 2022/2023:
For the implementation of the MidnightSports projects in Altdorf and Andermatt, one collaborates with the local partner Midnight Point Uri.

Midnight Point Uri opens the sports halls on Saturday evenings for young people between 13 and 17 years of age, and thus offers free premises for socialising and exercise. It is an offer by young people for young people; they shape and design the programme according to their needs. The focus is not on performance-oriented sports, but on the shared experience.

The supervision in the sports halls is in the hands of trained coaches. The youths and young adults take on leadership functions and bear significant responsibility. They acquire social and technical skills by acting independently and dealing with conflicts. They also strengthen their positive self-esteem and expand their social networks. The coaches receive a work certificate that they can show when looking for an apprenticeship or job.
