Uganda, Wakiso
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It borders South Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, Tanzania to the south, Rwanda to the southwest and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west. The borders with Kenya and Tanzania run partly through Lake Victoria and the equator runs through the south of the country. The capital and largest city of the country is Kampala.
Over 60 ethnic tribes live together in Uganda, each with their own languages, cultures, customs, and religions. More than half of the population belong to the Bantu tribe, which lives in the areas south and west of Lake Kioga. The largest Bantu group are the Baganda. The country name Uganda refers to their kingdom of Buganda.
Stream of Life is an association dedicated to promoting and supporting needy, disabled, and parentless children in Uganda.
The focus is to initiate sustainable change processes and to positively change the living situation of needy children through good school education, sufficient nutrition, basic medical care, and loving attention. At the same time, they help to improve the children's social environment by supporting the establishment of schools, training centres, orphanages, day care centres, and medical clinics.
Only partners and projects that can stand on their own feet after completion are supported. In addition to financial support, the transfer of know-how in organisation and management is the credo. This means daily cooperation - and it is here that the skills, experience, and empathy of the association are put to best use.
Newday Academy, Wakiso, Central Uganda
The school-centre is an ambitious project that aims to give children not only a good education, but also teach them responsibility for the future. It is planned to expand the centre step by step to include a kindergarden, primary school, and boarding school. When completed, the Newday Academy will comprise of seven school levels and provide education for about 420 children. An important goal is that paying children enable needy children to attend school. This lays the basics for a cycle of self-help, which is already shaped in childhood.
The Newday Kindergarden was built in 2019, and the Newday Junior School has been open since January 2022. Schooling has already started for the first six grades.
In order to ensure proper school operations, additional classrooms for the final school year, including a required examination hall, were built, and furnished in the year 2023. The school kitchen was also completed.
In the year 2024, a canteen with a roofed dining area will be built to protect the children from the intense midday heat. Furthermore, the sanitary facilities need to be completed and additional classrooms are planned on the first floor of the building.
