The Dominican Republic is an island nation located on the island of Hispaniola. The island of Hispaniola lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea and is the second largest of the Greater Antilles with an area of almost 77,000 square kilometres. The island is home to the states of Haiti (west) and the Dominican Republic (east).  

The name of the state is derived from the capital Santo Domingo, which in turn is named after the founder of the Dominican Order, St Dominic.

General

The young, dynamic people behind the Association "you deserve it" share a passion for doing good. For several years now, they have been helping on private trips to disadvantaged countries and offering their help. The organisation was then founded in Muhen in the canton of Aargau in 2021, with the aim of doing even more for the disadvantaged population of the Dominican Republic.

The members of the small organisation bring material aid such as clothes, toys, school supplies, and medical products from Switzerland to the people who need it most. This aid is financed by monetary donations and through the sale of self-designed products in the organisation's online shop. The organisation is personally on site at least once a year and thus transparently delivers the relief supplies to those in need .  

Beneficiaries

Behind the glowing beach backdrops and postcard setting of the Dominican Republic lies a lesser-known reality of poverty and the struggle for survival. “you deserve it” is therefore committed to helping disadvantaged children and families in rural areas in the San Cristobal region, where people have little or no access to the rest of society and the economy.  

The state aid that is offered locally can certainly be utilised. Unfortunately, many farmers and their families have not been officially registered for generations. Problem - they do not exist! Those who do not exist for the state can therefore not claim any help from it.

Thanks to personal connections of the association members on the ground, the urgently needed relief supplies can be distributed directly to the beneficiaries. With the exception of food, all of these relief supplies are shipped from Switzerland to the country and distributed locally.  

Project support

Project: Food distribution, hire of lorry + driver

Every year, the "We distribute food" project prepares food bags made from PET with basic food centres to distribute to disadvantaged local families. The products are sourced from local traders in order to boost the economy.  

A hired lorry and driver are used to personally distribute the filled bags to remote villages and churches in the countryside.
