Switzerland, Horw
The daycare centre is located in the centre of Horw in the attic level of an apartment building with a lift. Horw is a southern suburb of the city of Lucerne and is located on Lake Lucerne at the foot of Mount Pilatus.
The beautiful and bright 6 1/2-room apartment offers plenty of space for activities and rest periods. Guests can enjoy the sun and fresh air on the spacious terrace with a beautiful view of Mount Pilatus and Sonnenberg.
A diagnosis of dementia changes the everyday life of those affected. Step by step, abilities that are taken for granted by those not affected are lost. Forgetfulness, word-finding difficulties, as well as spatial and temporal disorientation become increasingly prevalent. Providing support and relief to relatives of people with dementia is an extremely important task.
The association ‘Pilatusblick – Living with Dementia’ has set itself the goal of contributing to maintaining a good quality of life for people with increasing care and support needs. It runs the ‘Pilatusblick Day Care Centre’, which provides daytime care for people with dementia, thereby also supporting and relieving the burden on family carers.
More than half of the people with dementia, who require care, live at home. In most cases, family members devote themselves to caring for them for years. A familiar environment is very important for people with dementia, as it usually provides a high degree of security and stability. It is often a heartfelt desire of relatives to be able to care for their loved ones at home for as long as possible. They take on the associated burdens and, in doing so, also experience many beautiful moments of connection.
The association ‘Pilatusblick – Living with Dementia’ creates a safe, structured daily routine for those affected in a private home setting. Two specialists trained specifically for this task look after five guests every day and offer them a daily routine tailored to their needs and interests. During this time, relatives and carers can recharge their batteries and focus on their own needs.
Guests are cared for from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4.45 p.m.
In addition to the day care centre, the association offers other services to promote vitality. These include home care, lunch, brain training, music, and exercise.
Project: Pilatusblick day care centre – Year 2025
Dementia goes far beyond the loss of mental abilities. It affects the perception, behaviour and experience of those affected – their entire being. In the world in which people with dementia live, things and events often have a completely different meaning than in the world of healthy people.
The association works with highly trained staff and ensures their continuing professional development, thereby guaranteeing high-quality, modern care and support. Social and professional skills, as well as a high regard for guests, characterise the joint efforts of the care team.
In the year 2024, 28 guests were cared for by the day care team for almost 9’000 hours. The association expects the same level of occupancy for the year 2025.
